Saving water is as crucial as cutting carbon

Save yourself money by cutting down energy and water waste with our top tips:

1. Don’t fill up the kettle every time you make a drink. For each person fill a mug with water and pour into your kettle. You’ll only heat the water you need and you’ll make your cuppa quicker!

2. Just as showering rather than taking a bath will save you water and energy, so using a dishwasher, rather than washing by hand, will make you savings in the same way.

3. If you don’t have a dishwasher and it takes a while for the tap to run with hot water, you can still save water. Boil the kettle with water from the cool hot tap. Pour in the boiling water as the warming hot tap fills your sink. The hot kettle water will warm any cold water coming out of the hot tap.

4. Run the washing machine when it’s full, resist the temptation to put it on half empty.

5. A dripping hot tap wastes water and energy. More often that not, a washer simply needs replacing and they cost pennies.

These few steps will quickly become routine and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do them before!
