Finally it’s warm enough to get out in the garden and get planting! With daffodils in bloom now is the time to get your seeds in the soil.

You may know what vegetables, flowers and plants you want to grow but have you thought about what you’re going to do to keep your plants well watered? Using a hose to hydrate the soil isn’t the best way forward as you can end up using more water than you need to.

Instead, you could invest in a trusty watering can, that way you only use the water you need, and build up a few muscles carrying it around your garden. From the basic plastic kind to a vintage metal watering can, there’s bound to be one to suit your taste and wallet.

If you have room, the best investment you can make is to purchase a rainwater barrel or water butt. They come in different sizes and shapes – if you’re not keen on a green plastic butt in your garden, how about a repurposed beer barrel? It’s relatively straightforward to fit a diverter pipe from your downflow pipe to the water butt and then you’ll have free water aplenty to revive your veggies and flowers with.
